Hiding and deleting
Keep transactions out of your totals, and restore anything hidden or deleted.
Hiding
Hiding takes a transaction out of your regular lists and cashflow totals but keeps the record. It doesn't change account balances or net worth, and it doesn't make the transaction private: other household members can still find it in the archive.
Hide import errors or a confirmed duplicate. You can hide several transactions at once, or have a rule hide matching ones. Check a hide rule's preview carefully so it doesn't catch unrelated transactions.
Don't hide:
- Transfers between your own accounts. A transfer category keeps them visible but out of spending.
- Refunds and reimbursements. Put them in the original purchase's category so they reduce its total. Hiding them leaves the original cost overstated.
Deleting
Deleting removes a transaction from regular lists and cashflow totals, but keeps it in the archive for restoration. Both bank-synced and manual transactions can be deleted and restored. Like hiding, deletion doesn't change account balances or net worth.
The archive
Settings → Archive holds everything out of view:
- Hidden: hidden transactions. Unhide one to count it again.
- Deleted: deleted transactions. One that was hidden before it was deleted stays hidden when restored.
- Accounts: deleted accounts and their history. If both an account and its transactions were deleted, restore the account first. A connected account may need reconnecting. Deleted Plaid accounts can be permanently removed after the connection's seven-day recovery window.
Some things can't be restored:
- Deleted categories. Their transactions become uncategorized.
- Deleted tags. They're removed from every transaction.
- Deleted recurring series. Their transactions stay.
- Deleted households, along with everything in them.
