Closing and deleting accounts
Keep a closed account's history, or remove an account from reports entirely.
Open an account, then its settings, to close or delete it in Penny. Neither action closes the account at your bank. Closing doesn't revoke bank access; deleting can eventually remove an unused Plaid connection, as described below.
Closing
Close an account you no longer use when you want to keep its history. Penny shows a zero balance from the closure date onward, and its earlier balances and transactions stay in your reports. You can reopen it from account settings.
Deleting
Delete an account that was connected by mistake or is a duplicate. Its transactions and balance history are excluded from your regular lists and reports, including past months.
You can restore an account still in the archive, though a bank connection may need reconnecting. Deleting also removes the account from rule conditions, and restoring it doesn't add those conditions back.
If every account on a Plaid connection has been deleted for at least seven days, Penny can remove that connection and permanently delete its accounts, transactions, and balance history. Restore an account before then if you want to keep it.
This cleanup doesn't apply to Apple or manual accounts, or to a Plaid connection that still has an undeleted account. To keep an account's history in your reports, close it instead.
| Current balance | Past balances | Transactions | Undo | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Closed | Zero | Kept before closure | Kept in reports | Reopen |
| Deleted | Excluded | Excluded | Excluded | Restore while in Archive |
Hiding an account
Penny can't hide an account from net worth or from other household members. Keep private accounts in a separate household.
