Recurring payments
Track subscriptions, bills, and paychecks on a monthly calendar.
The Recurring tab shows expected bills, subscriptions, and income on a calendar, including what's been charged, what's still coming, and the month's total.
A recurring is a series, such as a $17.99 monthly Netflix subscription. Each expected payment is an occurrence. When a transaction arrives from the same merchant with a similar amount near the expected date, Penny matches it to the occurrence. An unmatched past occurrence means Penny hasn't found a matching transaction; the payment may still be pending, missing from the sync, or different from the expected amount.
Recurrings don't change the transactions they match. To categorize a subscription's charges, use a rule.
Suggestions
Penny looks through your history for charges that repeat with the same merchant, a similar amount, and a steady cadence, and suggests them as recurrings. A banner on the Recurring tab shows how many are waiting. For each one:
- Accept creates the recurring and matches past charges to it. Check the frequency and amount first. An every-four-weeks charge can look monthly, and a recent price change may not be reflected.
- Dismiss stops Penny suggesting that merchant, amount, and frequency. A different pattern from the same merchant can still appear.
Transfers are never suggested, and a new subscription won't be until it has charged more than once. Add those by hand.
To hide suggestions for the whole household, turn off Settings → Preferences → Recurring Suggestions. Recurrings you've already accepted stay.
