Managing recurrings
Add a subscription, bill, or paycheck by hand, and end or delete a series.
Adding one
Add a recurring by hand for a new subscription or a bill Penny hasn't suggested. Set:
- Merchant: transactions from this merchant are matched to the series, which takes the merchant's name.
- Amount: the expected charge. Matching allows some variation, so an estimate works for variable bills.
- Type: expense or income. Add your paycheck as income to see it alongside your bills.
- Frequency and start date.
| Frequency | Repeats |
|---|---|
| Every week | Every 7 days |
| Every 2 weeks | Every 14 days |
| Every 4 weeks | Every 28 days |
| Twice monthly (1st & 15th) | Two fixed days each month |
| Twice monthly (15th & last) | Two fixed days each month |
| Every month | Same day each month |
| Every 2 / 3 / 4 / 6 months | The selected number of months |
| Every year | Annually |
Twice-monthly series fall on fixed days and don't need a start date. For an annual subscription, choose Every year and use the last charge as the start date.
Two plans from the same company can be separate recurrings on the same merchant; Penny matches each charge to the closest expected occurrence. Existing charges that fit are matched as soon as you save.
Ending, resuming, and deleting
Open a recurring to find these options.
End a subscription or payment that has stopped. Occurrences stop after today, and past ones keep their matched transactions. This doesn't cancel anything with the merchant.
Resume clears the end date and continues the same series, including expected payments during the gap. If you restarted after a long break, add a new series to keep that gap in your history.
Delete a duplicate or mistaken series. This permanently removes it and all its occurrences, past ones included. The transactions stay.
Changing the amount or schedule
You can't edit an existing recurring's amount, frequency, or start date yet. End it and add a new one with the right details.
