Merchants
Clean up the businesses behind your transactions.
Penny matches bank descriptions such as SQ *BLUE BOTTLE 0428 to a merchant with a
name and logo.
Editing a merchant
Settings → Merchants lists every merchant with its logo and total spend. Tap one to see its transactions, or to:
- Rename it, such as
AMZN Mktp UStoAmazon. The new name shows on every transaction. - Set its website, which Penny uses to find a better logo.
- Upload a logo, useful for local businesses.
Changing the merchant on a single transaction only reassigns that transaction.
Combining duplicates
One business can show up as several merchants when bank descriptions differ. Penny can't merge merchants yet, so reassign the transactions to the one you want to keep.
A rule that matches the name and sets the merchant handles future transactions, and past ones with Apply to existing transactions turned on. Merchants you set by hand aren't changed.
Deleting a merchant
Deleting clears the merchant from its transactions without deleting them. It also deletes the merchant's recurring series and removes it from rules, so reassign transactions and check recurrings first.
